Labyrinth
Jazz flutist and composer Marc Adler’s latest creative endeavor is a passionate and joyous journey through a labyrinth of vivid colors and richly textured sonorities. Along with Tony Miceli on vibes, his original compositions are interpreted by bassist Tony Marino or Paul Gehman and drummer Erik Johnson or Dan Monaghan. In addition to the quartets are two arrangements for sextet featuring trombonist Jim McFalls and trumpeter Bob Meashey of works by Vince Trombetta and Ron Thomas. The only other non-original work features the quartet with Marino and Johnson in a free interpretation of Wayne Shorter’s enigmatic and hauntingly beautiful “Nefertiti” featuring Erik Johnson throughout. Improvisation permeates the entire date - a genuine love of the art by these dedicated musicians makes this particular aural experience one you’ll not want to pass up.
